Classic Styling Tips That Are Perfect for the Fall Season

It’s officially fall, and you know what that means. It’s time to transition your wardrobe to cozier, more cold weather appropriate pieces like scarves, boots, and jackets. That being said, before you dive deep into your fall wardrobe, let’s discuss some styling tips that will help you transition out of summer and into the crisp, fall season.

We share our top 10 styling tips to get you through the season — and help you transition into the colder, winter months — up ahead.

1. Throw on a denim jacket

As the seasons change and it starts to get colder, start incorporating lightweight jackets into your wardrobe. We love denim jackets because they’re lightweight, yet they keep us warm in the fall chill. Plus, they look great with fall colors and can be layered with a sweater for added warmth.

2. Add a lightweight scarf

While it may be too warm for a winter scarf, you can still accessorize with cozy accessories. We love to pair our fall outfits with lightweight scarves to add some texture and seasonal flare to the mix. If you’re someone who prefers to wear solid-color ensembles, try switching it up and rocking a patterned scarf. Vice versa, if you wear a lot of bold prints, choose one color from your outfit and wear a lightweight, plain scarf that matches.

3. Introduce heavier fabrics

Fall is a great time to mix and match fabrics. As the weather starts to cool off, you may want to start introducing heavier fabrics into your wardrobe. Wool, denim, suede, and leather are all great places to start. Mix these heavier fabrics with lightweight cotton long sleeves or scarves throughout the season to help you transition out of summer and into winter.

4. Go green

As the leaves start to change, you may feel the urge to change your wardrobe from colorful to Earth-tone. One of our favorite ways to do so is by incorporating army green into our wardrobes. You can do so by wearing a pair of army green pants, a sweater, or even a lightweight jacket in the olive green hue.

5. Pair boots with dresses

Early fall is a weird time for outfit planning. And while you may be ready to wear your cozier pieces, the weather may not permit. If you want to add some fall flare to your warm-weather outfit, try pairing a pair of ankle boots — or even riding boots — with a dress.

6. Give vests a try

If it’s still a bit too warm for jackets, opt for a vest, instead. Not only can vests keep you warm, they can add extra flare to an outfit, too. We love sheepskin vests because they add the perfect amount of cold weather texture to any outfit.

7. Swap out your bangles for a statement necklace

Bracelets are great for summer when you’re sleeveless, but come fall, they’re often covered up or overlooked by jackets and sweaters. Accessorizing with a statement necklace, especially on days when you’re not wearing a scarf, is a great way to add some extra pizzazz to your look.

8. Stick with earth-tone manicures

Another way to switch up your wardrobe for fall? With a matching manicure! Since you’ll most-likely be rocking a lot of earth tones this season, try a darker, earthy manicure, too. If navies and greens aren’t your thing, you can opt for a deeper berry color, such as the Afters Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquer from butter LONDON.

9. Try dark wash denim jeans

Summer is all about lighter fabrics and colors — jeans included. To switch things up for fall, swap out your light wash for a dark wash pair of jeans. The darker hue will compliment the earthy tones of fall and transition easily into winter, too.

10. Layer it on

Another important fall styling tip? Bring on the layers. Like spring, fall weather tends to be a bit finicky. To avoid any discomfort in your outfit choices, opt for layers. That way, if it gets too hot, you can take a layer off, and if it gets too chilly, you can add a layer on.
