One of the Biggest Automotive Recalls in History Is Still Ongoing — Is Your Car Affected?

In the past, there have been massive automotive recalls and scandals. But the Takata airbag scandal makes many of these look like child’s play. Once the largest airbag supplier in the world, Takata went bankrupt in July and has begun selling off assets in order to fund the recall and repair of up to 43 million cars with defective airbags. The cost of this undertaking could exceed $5 billion.

After exposure to heat and humidity, Takata’s airbag inflators can become volatile, going off without any warning. Since the flaw was discovered in 2008, some 17 deaths have been linked to the malfunctioning airbags. The problem was first discovered in Honda Accords and Civics in 2008. But the scope quickly spiraled out of control. This potentially deadly issue affects cars as old as 2000 models and even includes a few 2017 models.

If your car is affected, then you need to look up the best way to fix it immediately. The repairs will be free, and you can find instructions on the government’s NHTSA website for what to do next. From Nissans to Ferraris, this is every model affected by the Takata airbag scandal.
